The Glow of Dusk

The Glow of Dusk

Ladies and Gentleman... if I had to hold onto a memory from those days?.... This would be it... the fresh bread and the fresh fish by the seashore... nothing like it...

And then came evening, soft and forgiving.

The sun, after hours of dominance, mellowed into gold, casting long shadows on sunburnt shoulders and tousled hair. It was the hour of return—back to the beach, back to something ancient and familiar. The water no longer scalded but soothed, like a balm, rinsing off the heat of the day.

This was when the quiosques (small beachside cafes) called. Not with whistles or fanfare, but with smoke curling upward from banana leaves wrapping around whole fresh caught fish that would be cooked for dinner and the clatter of laughter against tin counters. We knew our spot—the one where faces became familiar year after year. My parents, sun-tired and serene, chatted with vacation friends, while my brother and I roamed barefoot across sand dampened by twilight.

Fish sizzled in seasonings no recipe could mimic. Music spilled from unseen speakers. Newcomers sat tentatively, unsure if they belonged. But everyone did. That was the magic. Couples on spontaneous getaways. Families finding tradition in seaside dinners. And kids like me, staring wide-eyed at girls who looked like mermaids, whispering secrets to their boyfriends under swaying palms.

I never got that vacation romance. Life spun me elsewhere before I could catch it. But the yearning lingers sweetly—a feeling we captured in the final scent of the collection. The fragrance holds the hush of waves brushing the shore and the skin-warmed sweetness of a tropical night.
